Reflections From Your Board President

JANUARY 2010

THOUGHTS FROM THE PRESIDENT

This year the Puget Sound Walk to Emmaus begins its 27th year. I am honored and humbled to be asked to lead Emmaus for the following year. The Walk to Emmaus has had a tremendous impact on my Christian experience. My Walk took place in Silverdale on October 31, 1989. My wife, Barb, and I attend Christ Lutheran Church in Lakewood. Throughout the last twenty years Emmaus has consistently been a part of the commitment that I have undertaken on my Christian journey and I have been very blessed as a result.

Retirement is part of my lifestyle now. It gives me a lot of time to spend with my three grandchildren.

What is so encouraging to me about Emmaus is the inter-denominational aspect of the weekend. We gather on Thursday evening, as strangers of many different faith traditions, and leave at the end of the week-end with a love for each other and an understanding of how much we are alike in our love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is interesting how much each weekend has its own personality, but when we leave on Sunday the impact of the weekend on the lives of the participants is consistently the same.

There are some upcoming events that need to be shared with the PSWTE community. First, we are in the process of implementing a new updated website that will give us the opportunity to be much more interac-tive with the community and people who visit the website to learn more about Emmaus. We have had some setbacks getting the website up and running because of a serious illness of one of the individual creating the new site. We hope to have it up and running very soon.

Another exciting opportunity is the hosting of the Western Regional Emmaus/Chrysalis convention on April 9-10, 2010. It was be held at Christ Lutheran Church. We need the help of many people in the
community to make this a successful weekend. Watch the website for updates and the different types of support we will need from all of you.

At our January board meeting I was very excited by the number of people are attending the spring Walks, especially the number of the men’s Walk. I want to encourage everyone in the PSWTE community to find ways to continue your sponsorship from your churches and different Emmaus groups.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any joys or concerns that arise as we progress through the year. My phone # is 253-582-2085; my email is barbrogern@comcast.net.

In Christ,
Roger Nelson, President
Puget Sound Walk to Emmaus
